When complete, the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail will run for 35 miles throughout Kalamazoo County. Currently, nearly 17 miles of the trail are complete in two disjointed segments. One segment runs roughly north-south between D Avenue in Cooper through Kalamazoo to River Street in Comstock (11.9 miles), while the other runs east–west between the 10th Street trailhead of Kal-Haven Trail Sesquicentennial State Park to Westnedge Avenue (4.8 miles).
The north–south section features the Kalamazoo Nature Center, Markin Glen County Park, and Sutherland Park. You can link the two segments by an on-road route, which is signposted through downtown.
Plans call for extending the trail south from the city to Portage Creek Bicentennial Park and east to Battle Creek Linear Park.
